What is better in a street fight? Muay Thai or Boxing?

I am looking to join a martial art. I am going to get in better shape and for self discipline. What I am looking for is which one would be the most beneficial to me in a street fight straight up boxing or muay thai. Thanks|||Muay Thai...|||I did Muay Thai for 2 years 13-15 and boxing for 4 15-19. I personally find that i never use kicks and elbows in street fights. Unless you can do them perfect. In muay thai you do alot of differnt things. Elbows,Punches,All kinds of kicks and jumping knees and grappling. For a normal person this is alot to take in at once and to learn them all. The problem is your learning to many differnt things. Even after doing muay thai for 6 months you wouldnt have much of an advantage. Because you generally forget everything when someone pushes you over.

What i found with boxing is that you were throwing about 1000 punches a training session. Also doing alot more fitness work and allowing yourself to learn not as many things but perfect them better.

The key things you pick up alot quicker in boxing than muay thai. Is footwork, speed, throwing accurate punches correctly and keeping a good guard.

You will learn that alot quicker than

10 Differnt kinds of kicks, 7 differnt types of elbows, grappling, Jumping Knees, Grappling Knees,Footwork,Blocking all of those and footwork.

Therefore a boxer will develop alot faster than a muay thai.

Having said that muay thai is alot more leather and alot of moves can end a fight in 1 move. But its not like the films where people take about 500 punches and then finally go down with 1 massive uppercut or a round house kick.

I find there is alot more pride and discipline in boxing. I didnt particuary enjoy Muay Thai. But i loved boxing and its addictive. I guess i just loved it because every week you can see a differnce and you feel like a fighter. I never did with Muay Thai. Having said that finding fights in boxing is easier. When i was 15 i had 4 muay thai fights in 2 years and won 3 of them. In boxing i had 23 and won 20 of them. So id go for boxing.

But its up to you :D

Hope this helps

Benny-Moo|||Let me begin by saying both are excellent. I%26#039;d also suggest that both are better then %26#039;MMA%26#039;. Training MMA with no base is ... odd. Furthermore, you%26#039;re not going to want to take a street fight to the ground. Its a lot easier for someone to slam out of a hold on concrete then on a mat. Plus, if you train hard, its more likely you%26#039;ll get jumped by 3 guys then by one expert who%26#039;s style matches up well against yours.

Boxing and MT both focus on practical application and full contact sparring, which is what you want.

Personally, I%26#039;d lean to boxing. Traditional MT stance leaves you pretty open to takedowns. Plus unless you%26#039;re gonna walk around all day in your MT diapers, you might find it hard to launch your LHK in jeans. As the guy above said, its more important to be able to move your head, cover up and throw the core punches well then to learn 5 more techniques. Most guys on the street do not defend properly, but they may knowhow to bearhug you and _smash_.|||Muay Thai, no questions asked. Boxing is great for conditioning and hand combat but muay thai prepares you for every part of the body, the training is just as tough if not tougher than boxing and you learn how to use elbows and knees which can go a long way in a street fight. Muay Thai is the best choice for you.|||Muay Thai and Boxing are pretty much the same thing, except the fact that in Muay Thai they teach you how to kick, but in a real street fight scenario you will rarely use your feet unless your a pro Muay Thai fighter that can keep his cool. Or its just gonna be a non stop brawl with fists flying everywhere.|||Yes MMA. useualy it has Muay Thai,Muay Thai is awesome.|||Mixed Martial Arts.
