i go to a place where they teach %26quot;muay thai kickboxing%26quot; ... is that the same as muay thai?|||Pretty much. I think folks explicity add in the %26quot;kickboxing%26quot; name to call out the fact that it%26#039;s the combative sport, rather than soemthing else.
There%26#039;s a related body of techniques to Muay Thai, called Muay Boran: you can think of %26quot;modern%26quot; Muay Thai as the non-lethal, heavy-sparring rules of Muay Boran. However, even in Thailand, most people teach Muay Thai only, as it%26#039;s a lot easier to make money with it. (If you ever saw Ong Bak, you saw Tony Jaa doing Muay Boran + stunt fu.)
EDIT - and yeah, if you%26#039;re in Europe or America, there%26#039;s going to be some differences between what%26#039;s taught here and what%26#039;s in Thailand - but mainly it has to do with training methodology, and influences from boxing.
Muay Thai handwork and footwork isn%26#039;t all that sophisticated; so, a lot of Western schools incorporate boxing drills and movement. In contrast, You%26#039;ll see more flying knee strikes in Thai-taught Muay Thai, though. Schools in Thailand do use boxing techniques, though - there%26#039;s been a definate cross-pollination, in that respect.|||pretty sure it would be
but remember there is a HUGE difference between muay thai, and muay thai in thailand|||Yes, they%26#039;re the same.
