What is the best way to increase leg flexibility so I can improve at Muay Thai?

I can only kick to about waist level at the moment and want to be able to kick up to head level eventually.

Any tips on technique or increasing flexibility to achieve my goal?|||Yoga does amazing things for flexibility. But overall the only way to become more flexible is to stretch, stretch, stretch. Sit down and spread your legs as far as you can without being in pain. Then reach to touch your toes and lean in as much as you can without being in pain, and hold it for like 10 seconds. Do the same on the other side. That%26#039;s a really basic stretch but if you repeat it daily you will gradually be able to stretch farther and farther, and will become more flexible. You could also try to do the splits and just go as far down as you can without hurting yourself, and hold it there for a few seconds. Stuff like that is all you need to do. Find a few stretches that work specific muscles that you want to be more flexible, and just repeat those every day.|||Hi there

I think its already been mentioned but the best way is to start getting into a routine and do 5 to 10 minutes of stretching everyday. The hamstrings of the legs need to be gradually stretched to maintain their shape which takes time. There%26#039;s a few exercises you can do. The best one is to hold the box splits for so many seconds and then repeat it. Do it 5 times a day start at 30 secs and keep adding 10 secs each time you do it. It took me about a month to be able to do the box splits and I%26#039;m still doing them 10 years on. Maintaining your flexibility is the hardest part!

Remember stretching should feel uncomfortable but never painful. If in any doubt consult your GP or fitness instructor at your local gym for advice.

You have to do the exercises every day.

There%26#039;s no quick fix!

Regards

idai|||The best way is to stretch every day. it takes time but stretching regularly is just about the only way to go|||I have the same problem with you.

1. Yoga is fine for more flexible.

2. Training hard is only way to sucess. Not only your body but your mind too. To learn Muay Thai MUST understand Thai before.

3. You may use my technique. I prefer learn by see Muay Thai Fight. I just bought Onesongchai series from http://www.muaythaiart.com . When you want to high kick, Back leg is very important. I have problem with this before too.

You must stand with your finger and kick by see head shorts not your leg. I see this from champions step. They always see competitors not them leg and if you see it very closed. They always kick in step they move forward fast. It%26#039;s hard to avoid by competitors.

Ps. I recommend you to see muay thai boran clip. I think in youtube may have it. It%26#039;s call %26quot;muay thai chaiya%26quot; It%26#039;s original muay thai. It%26#039;s may help you about this step.|||Google PNF stretching|||Every day, do the splits as far as you can. Do it in the morning and night. Eventually, your leg will be streched out. Have a great day! -question001|||Stretch constantly, specially after warming up, for at least 15 min. remember also that in order to do a proper high kick you must tilt your upper body back.|||Yoga
